About Ched Myers

4535ched_frank_cordaro_200Ched Myers (far right of the picture, taken at an event for the Des Moines Catholic Worker in 2004) is a fifth generation Californian. For thirty years Ched has worked with various peace and justice organizations and movements, including the Pacific

Concerns Resource Center and the American Friends Service Committee. He currently works with Bartimaeus Cooperative Ministries, an ecumenical organization promoting biblical literacy, church renewal and faith-based witness for justice.

Ched holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. in New Testament Studies from the Graduate Theological Union. He has served as adjunct faculty at several theological seminaries (most recently he was Visiting Professor at Memphis Theological Seminary), and has taught courses at a dozen other seminaries across North America and abroad. His primary commitment, however, is to popular theological education and socio-economic analysis with faith based activists. He is one of the founders of the Word and World People’s School, which is committed to bridging the “seminary, the sanctuary and the streets” (www.wordandworld.org).

Ched's books include: Binding the Strong Man: A Political Reading of Mark's Story of Jesus (Orbis, 1988), Who Will Roll Away the Stone: Discipleship Queries for First World Christians (Orbis, 1994), and most recently The Biblical Vision of Sabbath Economics (Church of the Saviour, 2001). Author of over 75 articles on a wide range of topics, he is a contributing editor to Sojourners and The Other Side magazines. Ched travels throughout North America and abroad giving seminars and retreats with groups across the ecumenical spectrum, most of which focus on some aspect of faith and economic justice.
